Viewfinder: Grosse Pointe Woods Egg Hunt
Dozens of children searched for eggs Wednesday, braving the cold, windy weather at Lake Front Park.

There were three staggered rounds of egg hunts, with treats for all, and special prizes for those who found the few golden eggs. The Easter Bunny was on hand for meet-and-greets and photo ops, and there was a petting zoo.
The petting zoo was a new addition to the annual egg hunt, which in the past has been held at the Woods municipal building on Mack Avenue, according to Parks and Recreation Supervisor Melissa Sharp. The price of the petting zoo was shared between the Woods and the Park in an effort to offer more without paying more, Sharp said. The Park held their egg hunt Wednesday too, which is why the expense was able to be shared.

Earlier this year the park department from all of the Pointes discussed having one egg hunt as one way to consolidate and save money but the idea did not work out this year, Sharp said. It is still a possibility in the future, she said.
The Woods egg hunt was first significant event held at Lake Front Park since the heightened security measures have been put in place. Traffic was at times backed up onto Jefferson Road. Getting into the park took upwards of 10 minutes as names were checked against those who were pre-registered, and park passes were accepted for those wanting to purchase tickets the day of.
