Viewfinder: Kids Against Hunger Volunteer Project
Grosse Pointe middle schoolers and parents helped bag food Wednesday for an organization serving starving children in the U.S. and overseas.
Middle school students and parents helped package bags of food estimated to feed six adults or 12 children or some combination thereof. The event held at is for Kids Against Hunger, a Minnesota-based organization aiming to reduce starving children both in the United States and around the world.
Student and parents volunteers packaged more than 10,000 bags- or 60,000-120,000 meals Wednesday. The dry ingredients were paid for as a gift by the Anne R. Hudson Memorial Fund to the Grosse Pointe Foundation for Public Education.
Students from all three of Grosse Pointe's middle schools--, Parcells and --participated in the two hour volunteer project. District spokeswoman Rebecca Fannon said the meals go for children in Detroit and Africa.
