Viewfinder: Pointers Cool Off in Heatwave
Despite having restricted hours thus far in the pool season, the residential park pools through the Pointes have been busy.
More than 1,100 residents were scanned into Wednesday during the recent heatwave in which the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory. Temperatures soared nearing 100 degrees.
Grosse Pointers cooled off as soon as they had the opportunity at many of the residential parks in the late afternoon using the pools and other water attractions.
Parks and Recreation Director Melissa Sharp noted the unusually high pool attendance rate for this early in the season. Emergency crews treated a 69-year-old man who suffered from heat stroke Wednesday and lifeguards and other parks employees had to evacuate the pool and pool deck to clear the way for emergency crews.
