Viewfinder: Woodblock Printing

Many artists teach their specialty at the Grosse Pointe Art Center.

The Grosse Pointe Art Center is a beacon for area artists. They can display and sell their work. They can participate in shows and gallery openings. And they can share their passion with others through teaching.

Two Pointers worked with Nobuko Yamasaki, of the Woods, to learn the art of woodblock printing. This type of art requires intricate, dedicated work using a special wood imported from Japan, vellum and great attention to detail.

Yamasaki was born in Osaki, Japan, and studied printmaking in Kyoto, Japan. Now she teaches the traditional Japanese method of handmade printing at the center located in the Village.
