5 Things About the Census in Hartland

New 2010 Census data is in. Here's a first glimpse at Hartland Township.

Here's a quick look of the area based on total population growth from statistics released Tuesday:

  1. Hartland Township saw a rise in population 33 percent from 2000 to 2010, going from 10,996 to 14,663; a gain of 3,667 people.
  2. Most of the growth happened from 2000 to 2005. A 2006 mid-decade census put Hartland Township at 14,153. That means the township grew by a more modest 3.6 percent or 510 people since then.
  3. The increase in population means more revenue for local government. Hartland Township Manager James Wickman said the township will likely receive close to $230,000 more in revenue sharing in the upcoming year, $20,000 more than originally predicted because officials were budgeting with a number closer to 14,000.
  4. Hartland Township at 14,663 is the fifth largest municipality in Livingston County. The most populous municipality in Livingston County is Hamburg Township (21,165), followed by Genoa Township (19,821), Brighton Township (17,791) and Green Oak Township (17,476).
  5. Livingston County grew by 15.3 percent since the last census, going from a population of 156,951 in 2000 to 180,967 in 2010. It had the second largest percentage change in population in the state behind Clinton County. Michigan's largest county, Oakland, with 1,202,362 people, grew by just 0.7 percent in the last decade.
