📰 News we're reading

• Highlander Way Middle School had 3 African American students in 2024-25 (livingstontoday.com) — Highlander Way Middle School, part of Howell Public Schools, enrolled just three African American students in 2024-25, a slight increase but still only 0.4% of its 789 students. The data, from the Michigan Department of Education, also shows Howell High has the district's largest African American enrollment and places these figures in the context of statewide demographic shifts since before the pandemic.

• Howell uses rare passing attack to spark win over Traverse City Central in season opener (livingstondaily.com) — Howell High's football team opened its season with a 49-35 win, leaning on a powerful rushing attack and timely passes to outlast Traverse City West. Coach Brian Lewis praised his deep backfield, including standout Bryce Kish, while fans saw a back‑and‑forth game that tested the Highlanders' defense but ended with late sacks and a clock‑draining final drive.
