1. HHS Students Named Commended Students In 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program (whmi.com) — Two Howell High School seniors, Lyla Stawick and Penelope Taylor, have been named Commended Students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, placing them among the top scorers nationwide. School and National Merit officials praised their hard work and academic potential, noting that this recognition can open doors to future educational opportunities even though Commended Students do not advance in the main scholarship competition.
2. Historic Howell Opera House restoration to revitalize downtown landmark (cuinsight.com) — A long-awaited restoration of the historic Howell Opera House is moving forward, promising to turn the downtown landmark into a lively venue for performances, weddings, and community events. Led by the Livingston Arts Council with support from Lake Trust Credit Union, construction is expected to begin in late 2026, preserving the building's character while boosting the vitality of Howell's Downtown Historic District.
3. Whitmer appointing Howell man to Michigan Tax Tribunal (thelivingstonpost.com) — A Howell resident, retired attorney and assessor Timothy Schnelle, has been tapped by Gov. ASPCA Right Horse Adoptable Horse of the Week: Kasuco (horseillustrated.com subscription) — A Howell-based rescue, Horses' Haven, is featuring Kasuco, a 15-year-old Andalusian gelding, as the ASPCA Right Horse Adoptable Horse of the Week. The organization says he's a kind, talented dressage prospect who needs an experienced rider and ongoing light maintenance, offering a strong match for a local horse lover ready to continue his training.
