Baker College’s Flint campus will continue to administer professional certification exams, GED testing

The campus administered 1,500-plus tests last year that help Flint-area residents better their career prospects.

Baker College’s Flint campus has extended its agreement with Pearson VUE, the computer-based testing business of Pearson, to administer and provide accessible and secure testing for professional certifications and licensures and the GED credential.

“Providing the administration and a top-notch testing facility for area residents and businesses to become more competitive in the workplace is in line with Baker College’s mission of providing quality higher education and training,” said Janie Stewart, Baker College of Flint vice president - career & corporate services. “Training is key to continued economic growth. The more highly trained and certified workers we have, the more competitive our businesses and the stronger our communities can become.”

This is the eighth year that the Flint campus has provided a Pearson VUE test facility. Last year, more than 1,500 tests were administered.

Stewart said that earning credentials and professional certifications help professionals stay abreast of new and emerging trends and can lead to career advancement. Other exams, like the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification, are required for entry into a profession or by employers. The teacher certification exam accounts for more than 20 percent of the exams currently administered at the Baker College facility.

Pearson VUE’s advanced system offers exams on behalf of hundreds of businesses, boards and organizations around the globe. Among the information technology firms offering certification testing are Cisco Systems, CompTIA, Linux Professional Institute, Oracle and VMware Inc.
