Ditch Those New Year's Resolutions!

Ditch the new years resolutions and create new MONTH resolutions to increase your odds of success.

I challenged you earlier this month with ways to keep those New Year resolution commitments all year long. Overwhelmed? “Don't worry about a thing, because everything little thing gonna be alright." We're going to break it all down for you, so you can take what seems impossible into bite sized "doable" tasks.

So you want to lose weight this year ... statistics show that of the 45% of Americans that typically make new year's resolutions, 38% set some kind of weight related resolution each year. But only 8% are successful in attaining their resolution. Don't let that discourage you. We've got one secret to make it all happen ... think new MONTH resolution, not YEAR!

We've all heard it before; to set any goal you never want it to be vague and unrealistic. Saying you want to lose 50 pounds this year really doesn't paint a clear picture of how it's all going to happen does it? What goals can you set this month? Using our 50-pound weight loss example, let's set 4 pounds as our monthly goal, that's only 1 pound a week. Now, what are you going to do each week to make the 4-pound loss a reality? Grab your calendar, write down all your workouts for the month and plan your meals each week.

This goal is specific, realistic, it includes a deadline, and the only thing left to do is let it be known. By telling the important people around you, you'll not only get support but also some extra accountability.

Lastly, make this journey fun and rewarding. Don't take all the fun out of it ... its hard work no matter what you're trying to accomplish. So do something good for yourself when you hit a goal. I guarantee with each step you're going to feel happier. And remember, happiness doesn't always come from hitting your number (or whatever you goal may be) it comes from "doing." I've included a link to a very inspirational video from a young man named Ben whose motto is "Do Life." I absolutely agree with his philosophy, it's the "doing" not the "wanting" that gets you to where you want to be.
