Llama Llama Books Are Wondeful For Preschoolers

Two great books that made the first year of preschool much easier for my son.

Are you familiar with Llama Llama Misses Mama or Llama Llama Red Pajama? Can I just say one word, heartfelt! The author, Anna Dewdney, brings the character, Llama right in to relatable situations your young children may be going through. My 3-year-old, Ethan, and I really enjoy reading Anna’s books.

I have read both of these stories randomly in the past but this year they grew even closer to my heart. Ethan was blessed with an amazing preschool teacher this year, Laura DeRosier. Mrs. DeRosier utilizes these books to begin and conclude the preschool year.

On the first day of preschool, Mrs. DeRosier read Llama Llama Misses Mama to her class. This lead to the perfect discussion with 3-year-olds about enjoying the fun and friends of preschool. They were able to learn through a relatable story that it is OK to feel unsure and to miss Mama. The parents were encourages to talk about the story again at home. I took that advise and more. Ethan and I bought the book and read it every night for the next few weeks. It was comforting and made for some wonderful bonding time. (Ethan is the middle child.)

The school year continued and is near the end now. Mrs. DeRosier put together a Mom’s night where kids and their moms come to school at night. Can you guess what the theme was? That’s right, it was a pajama-themed evening of fun. DeRosier read Llama Llama Red Pajama to the entire class and their moms while we all were in our pajamas! It was the perfect way to help bring this school year to a near conclusion. And of course I need to go buy Llama Llama Red Pajama to add to my bedtime story collection.

Can any of you share a great bonding story that is near and dear to your hearts? I love getting suggestions for new books to read to my children.
