Project X, a lesson in pre-production.

Michael Clark, award winning writer and director explains the steps of pre production.

 Hello Hartlandians,

If you have been keeping up with Scallywag Media inc. ( Scallywag Entertainment), you may of heard the title " Project X" thrown around. You say to yourself," What is this " Project X" and when will we know more?" Well today I will explain the idea behind the most incredible ground breaking form of entertainment that will be all the rage on your smart phone this fall. Well we hope it will.

"Project X" ( we are working on a real title) is a new form of interactive media designed to be watched and played on your Iphone- Ipad and Android smart phones. How this works is not unlike the book series " Goosebumps." It is in a nutshell a choose your own adventure style of entertainment, but this time with live action video. The game will put YOU, the player, inside the movie where you will be able to choose the next scene in the movie. You are being chased through the woods by an ax wielding madman and you come to a fork in the road, you are trapped... Do you take the path back to the car? Do you try to make your way to the log cabin? A simple touch of the screen and watch where your choice takes you. Choose wisely! Some decisions will effect what ending you get to the game.

Sounds fun right? I know I would love to play this, and if all goes well this fall it will be available on Itunes for download.

When I say we are in pre production what do I mean? Well this is first part of the recipe if you will. To make a pie you need to gather your ingredients. That's what pre production is. First we need to write the recipe (script.) Once that is done we need to go through it and find each and every ingredient (props, wardrobe, make up, locations, actors.) Then we need the kitchen staff in place (camera, sound, editors, assistants.) Once we have everything we need to start baking we make a shopping list and figure out how much this pie will cost to make, and then we try to raise the funds needed (the worst part of the job.)

All this needs to be done before you step into the kitchen and thats what we are in the process of doing. Once the figures are added up and the cooks are in line we will approach investors with our recipe. To keep it simple we are saying " If you help pay to make this new pie we will share the profits with you." People may love this new pie and be standing in line to get a slice, or it could be like " New Coke" and only a few people will enjoy the taste. That's the risk of investment.

The recipe is almost done and our shopping list is being tallied. If everything falls into place we will be cooking our pie in Hartland this summer.

Next blog is where I will be calling on you to see if you can help us in the kitchen.

Until next time.
