Michigan Audubon conservation manager, Chad Machinski, will present “Chimney Swifts”, on June 2nd for the Hartland Audubon Nature Club. Chimney Swifts are an exceptional aerial bird, nicknamed the “cigar with wings. A migratory bird from South America, with steep population declines. Their arrival is in May and by mid-July their eggs should be hatching and then headed back south in August through September.

Chad is responsible for the management and care for all 20 of Michigan Audubon’s Sanctuaries around the state and bird specific programs such as Chimney Swift and Purple Martin conservation. He will educate us how to protect habitat for Chimney Swifts and identify potential roost sites.
