Candidate Q&A: Carole Bullion, Candidate for Register of Deeds

Hartland Patch has sent out a survey to candidates running for office to represent Hartland. The following is the Q&A response from Carole Bullion, who is running for Register of Deeds for Livingston County.

Patch: How long have you lived in Livingston County?

Bullion: I have lived in Livingston County for 37 years (most of my life)

Patch: What community/civic organizations are you currently involved in?

Buillion: I am a member of the:

• Brighton Chamber of Commerce
• Relay for Life
• Bras for a Cause (making Strides against breast cancer)
• Fill the Gazebo (Gleaners)
• Livingston County Assn of Realtors (member 23 years) Education Chair
• Women’s Council of Realtors (Past president and Affiliate of the Year 2012)

Patch: What drew you to run for Register of Deeds?

Bullion: What drew me to run for Register of Deeds:

• Need for improvement in service to the public
• The background in working with document recording and how it affects property values
• Having owned my own title company, I have an eye for cost saving measures with improved efficiency to save taxpayer dollars

Patch: What personal and professional experiences make you qualified to hold that position?

Bullion: Personal & Professional Experience:

• 27 years experience in the Real Estate and Title Insurance Industry
• Have been responsible both as the President of Stewart Title of Detroit and as owner of Classic Title Agency to submit documents for recording in  most of the counties in the sate of MI
• The Land Title profession has a direct connection to the recording of the Real Estate documents as these documents are examined to ascertain whether title insurance can be obtained on a property or not. If a property cannot be insured, the value of that property drops in value significantly
• Sat on the American Land Title Assn Education Committee in Washington DC and co-wrote the Ethics program being taught to our industry nationally. I also had to present the class in front of a Congressional Committee to show how our industry as a whole was combating fraud.
• State certified instructor teaching Continuing Education and Real Estate Law to licenses.

Patch: What is the most important issue facing the county related to your position and what do you intend to do about it during your term in office?

Bullion: There are really two:

1. To improve service to the public. I am a firm believer that an elected official is a public servant. Helpful, friendly, courteous service should greet EVERY citizen that walk s in the door.
2. County tax Revenues will stay down for some time even as the economy starts to improve. Being a fiscal conservative and owning my own business, I have the eye for looking at a budget and making changes necessary to save the taxpayers money. Whether it involves consolidating responsibilities or initiating software to receive electronic recording ( saving time and money while improving accuracy) I have run successful companies for many years.

Patch: What is your vision for Livingston County, where do you see the county in 10 or even 20 years, and what does the county need to do now to realize that vision?

Bullion: I couldn’t be prouder to be a resident of Livingston County, especially working in the housing industry. Thanks to the frugal and insightful measures our County Commissioners  have taken over the last decade,  our county continues to lead the state on balancing a budget and saving for a rainy day! It is very easy to promote home ownership here because of this. The county will continue to maintain and I believe grow due not only to the fiscal responsibility of its leaders but because of the midway proximity between Detroit and Lansing, which is attractive to commuting families.

The county is currently a partner of the Ann Arbor SPARK program and I think they need to continue that. The purpose is to keep our skilled resident working within the county!
