Brutal Classroom Fight in Hartland High School Caught on Video

A Hartland mother spoke out about a fight that took place in a classroom at Hartland High School between her daughter and another female student.

Aurore Henze and her daughter Katya Adamkiewicz appeared on Fox 2 News on Thursday night, speaking out about the incident that left 14-year-old Katya with injuries severe enough to visit Urgent Care. 

According to Henze, the incident took place on Tuesday during her daughter’s fifth hour class with the teacher in the classroom. Katya’s nose was broken and she also ended up having a seizure and received a concussion from the beating.

"I was like is my nose broken? I'm like what's this bump on my head? He's (Hartland High School principal Ben Mainka) like no it's fine, just put this ice on it. You look fine or whatever. He's like I'm just going write that you and this girl were verbally fighting and then you said something that set her off or blah, blah, blah, and you're going to get a five day suspension, but there's nothing wrong with defending yourself," Katya said in the Fox 2 report.

Henze says a video was posted to Facebook by students within the next 24 hours. It clearly shows her daughter being attacked from behind by a girl she has had problems with repeatedly in the past, according to Henze.

Initially, Katya received a 5-day suspension, but her mother said the school removed that punishment after viewing the video.

“I feel the school is responsible for that,” Henze said. “They need to back that up and say this girl was attacked, brutally in class with the teacher there, this is not acceptable.”

Katya, who was previously homeschooled, will not be returning to the high school, according to her mother and the family also has plans to file criminal charges against the female student as well.

In a letter sent out to high school parents, Hartland High School principal Ben Maika addressed the incident calling it "a rare and unfortunate occurrence for HHS, and we are very sad that it happened."

"It is important to understand that these incidents involve children (minors) and that as an educational institution; we are not at liberty to respond to the media or others with the intricate details of such events," the email stated. "We have carefully investigated and responded according to our student handbook, and work hard to maintain a safe learning environment for students as we always do."

Watching the video herself only once, Henze says it was hard to watch and that her daughter hasn’t seen it at all.

“My daughter hasn’t watched it,” she said. “She doesn’t want to watch it.”
