The Philip Livingston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has honored Larry Detter with the 2017 Community Service Award. Detter was honored for his volunteer work conducting the music programs at the Hartland Senior Activity Center. Detter leads the Silver Squires, Silver Chords and Second Wind Ensemble. He participates in the Silver Ringers as well as "Joe and the Dudes." He teaches the musicians and participates in the evening concerts and the major fundraiser concert each fall. Detter was also recognized for his work as lead steward of the 42 acre the Lyle and Mary Rizor Nature Sanctuary. His primary responsibility is to ensure that the trail system is groomed for hikers and he also helps to manage invasive species within the sanctuary.
