UPDATED: Hartland Area AAU Teams Finish Strong in Weekend Tournament

Girls take two seconds, a third and fourth in event at the high school and middle school.

Hartland teams took two seconds and a fourth in this weekend's AAU girls basketball friendship tournament at and the .

The fifth- and sixth-grade squads grabbed the seconds while fourth-grade team finished fourth, said Roger Crouse, who helped organize the tournament and coached a combined team that included players from Hartland and Brighton.

That squad, the Livingston Lynx, finished third playing in the higher 10th-grade division with freshman who played on their high school teams.

A seventh-grade Hartland team also lost in the second round of bracket play.

More than 35 teams from all over Michigan brought their own version of March Maddness to Hartland over the two days. The age groups range from 9 and under to 15 and under.

Crouse said the AAU system, with support from the Hartland Area Youth Athletic Association, has helped establish a program locally that is now paying dividends for the high school program.

Many of the players who have helped the Eagles win district titles the past two years first began to hone their skills at AAU tournaments such as the one this weekend, he said.
