Civil War Commemorative Activities

The Huron Valley Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemoration presents events, programs, observances and services appropriate to commemorate the Civil War Sesquicentennial in the Huron Valley.

Among the events celebrating the sesquicentennial in downtown Milford this Sunday, June 26 is a sunrise service in Central Park.

In addition to this service, Kerry Chartkoff, in Save the Flag presentation, speaks about the Civil War regimental flags and their preservation at 2 p.m. . He tells stories about the regiments and the men who saved the flags.

All day in Central Park there will be a variety of events, including:

  • Demonstrations, displays and hildren's activities
  • Storytellers
  • Musicians
  • Civil War enlistment and drills
  • Debates

Two events also take place in a different location, including a pancake breakfast with "the Lincolns" from 8 a.m.-noon at the Milford Fire Department, 325 W, Huron St. in Milford. At the same time, in Southside Park, adjacent to the fire hall, children have the opportunity to play Civil War era children's games/activities.

 In addition to these events, the Milford Library will host Civil War displays and art the entire month of June.
