Gymnast Narrowly Misses Qualifying for State Finals

GYMNASTICS — Taylor Jayne, a Hartland High School gymnast, missed qualifying for the state finals in by one spot in vault during regionals at Troy Athens High School on Saturday.

The senior's 8.6 was 0.5 away from qualifying. She also finished 11th on beam — 0.15 away from qualifying and 18th out of 93  in the all around category. Despite not moving on, Taylor said she was pleased.

"I was thrilled of how the season turned out," she said in an e-mail to Hartland Patch.

Friday

GIRLS BASKETBALL — Hartland won a district title for the second consecutive year Friday with a 39-32 win over Howell. For our coverage, click .

Thursday

BOYS HOCKEY — Hartland's season ended Thursday with a 3-2 loss to Lakeland. For our coverage, click .

BOYS WRESTLING — On Day 1 of the state individual tournament in Auburn Hills, three of seven  Hartland wrestlers won their opening matches Thursday. For our coverage, click .

BOYS BASKETBALL — Hartland ended the Kensington Lakes Activities Association post season with a 43-26 loss to South Lyon, according to the KLAA website. The Eagles head into the state tournament with a 9-11 record and play 5:30 p.m. Monday against Howell at Lakeland High School.

Wednesday

GIRLS BASKETBALL — Hartland advanced to the district finals Wednesday with a 38-24 win over Lakeland. For our coverage, click .

Tuesday

BOYS HOCKEY — Walled Lake Northern star goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 28 saves while Hartland goalie Aaron Zeddell stopped 18, but Zeddell’s biggest saves came when it mattered most.

Zeddell and the Eagles survived a late rally and defeated the Knights 3-2 Tuesday night in the first round of the state pre-regional opener. Hartland will play Lakeland 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Eagles led 3-1 with 1:33 left in the contest when senior forward Cameron LaDouceur came on the ice. LaDouceur stole the puck at the top of the Hartland defensive zone, and scored on a break away goal cutting the lead to just one.

Hartland was able to clear the puck four times and get three shots toward the empty Northern net and Zeddell faced just one more shot.

Nick Manley scored what proved to be the game winner for Hartland on a wrap around.

Monday

BOYS AND GIRLS SKIING — The girls team finished ninth in the state finals Monday in Marquette, according to results posted on the Michigan High School Athletic Association Web site.

Marian won the title while Livingston County rival Brighton was eighth. Nine schools competed. Hartland, which was 5-4 on the season and finished third at the Feb. 17 regionals, was ranked ninth in the state going into the event.

Mallory Reader led the girls team finishing 25th in the team competition for both slalom and giant slalom events while she was 30th and 34th overall in the individual portion of the competition.

Colin David, who qualified individually for the boys races, finished 45th in the slalom and 63rd in the giant slalom.
