Hartland Firefighters Faithfully Honor 9/11 Brethren

Tributes now ride along on each new vehicle as department prepares to participate in Brighton ceremony.

In a little more than a week, the nation will formally commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

One local institution — the — has been remembering those who sacrificed, and through the photos and captions above, you can find how and why.

This year, on Sept. 11, firefighters from all over Livingston County — including Hartland — will converge in Brighton to dedicate a memorial that includes a piece of steel from the World Trade Center.

The metal is one of only of a few pieces released to fire departments in the state so far, said Adam Carroll, Hartland Deerfield fire chief.

"The renderings of the memorial are just absolutely beautiful," Carroll said. "It's a great design."

The 9 a.m. event is at Brighton Fire Station 31, 615 W. Grand River Ave, and is open to the public.

Grand River Avenue from Main to Cross streets will be closed. A shuttle service will be available from the parking lot of Meijer in Brighton.
