Hartland High School Swimmer Among Final Eight to Compete for 100-Yard Breaststroke State Title

Junior Kirsten Stroven second in preliminaries as Eagles advance in five events.

Hartland High School junior Kirsten Stroven's 1:05.30 was good enough for second in Friday's preliminaries for the 100-yard breaststroke — giving her a shot a state individual title Saturday in the finals at Eastern Michigan University.

Stroven improved by more than two seconds from her seeding time of 1:07.31. Ashlei Shanley of Ann Arbor Skyline finished first with a 1:04.82.

The Eagles also advanced to Saturday competition four other events. They include:

  • Junior Avery Evenson, who finished ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:57.40 and 15th in the 100-yard freestyle with a 53.51.
  • The 200-yard medley relay (Stroven, sophomore Lindsay Pajot, junior Jocelyn Reinert and junior Hannah Grosso) was 14th with a 1:52.33
  • The 200-yard freestyle relay (Evenson, Grasso, Reinert and junior Carolyn Robinson) was 12th with a 1:40.22
  • The 400-yard freestyle relay (Evenson, Robinson, Grosso and Erica Mehlberg) was 12th with a 3:38.33.

Other Hartland results include:

  • Freshman Dana Stroven, who as 17th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:07.50. Stroven is an alternate for the finals.
  • Pajot, who was 27th in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:01.02.
  • Robinson, who was 28nd in the 100-yard freestyle with a 55.21 and 33rd in the 50-yard freestyle with a 25.39.

Swimming begins at noon at the EMU REC/IM Center. Admission is $8.
