Hartland Lady Eagles Lose Heartbreaker in Regional Final

The girls basketball team falls to Ann Arbor Huron with a score of 48-40.

The lost a heartbreaker in the regional finals with a score of 48-40 to Ann Arbor Huron Thursday night.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead in the opening minutes led by Lindsey Pajot. Ann Arbor Huron came back utilizing full court pressure to take a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.Β 

Huron turned up the pressure in the second quarter which disrupted the Eagle offense. With a full court press and double teaming Bailee Maggert each time she touched the ball limited Hartland to six points in the secondΒ quarter. The River Rats took a 22-14 lead into the locker room at the half.Β

Hartland came out on fire in the third quarter lead by Bailee Maggert and Lindsey Pajot. Bailee hit two 3-pointers from beyond the arc to get the Eagles going. The defensive pressure was suffocating as the lady Eagles swarmed. Hartland went on a 15-7 run to tie the score at 29 heading into the fourthΒ quarter.

Ann Arbor Huron hit two quick baskets in the first minute of the final stanza to take a 34-29 lead. After a couple turnovers, the Eagles were down by 9 points. After a timeout, Hartland came out in a full court press to make a run. Mallory Slavin hit a baseline jumper andΒ Jaymie Dyer hit a huge 3-pointer to cut the lead to 44-39 withΒ 1:30Β left.Β

The Eagles played their hearts out in the final minute and a half but couldn’t get the shots to fall. Lindsey Pajot led the way for the Eagles with a game high 13 points. Seniors Bailee Maggert and Jaymie Dyer chipped in with seven points each.Β Β 

The lady Eagles wrapped up their outstanding season with a sparkling 21-4 record.Β Β
