Hartland Track Couple Race to the Prom

Rachel Egeland and Michael Dean leave regionals to make dance, newspaper reports.

Friday was not your typical track regional for seniors Rachel Egeland and Michael Dean — as both went to Miford representing Hartland High School and then left in a race to attend prom, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

The couple won that contest as a picture taken by Hartland Patch photographer Sherri Yezbick-Taylor from the foyer at Crystal Gardens in Genoa Township shows. Egeland runs in several events while Dean throws discus and shot put.

Egeland already had helped set a school record on Hartland’s 400 relay team that clocked a 51.50 — , placing third behind Walled Lake Central (49.90). The newspaper reported she originally planned to run in the 1,600 relay, as well, but her coach Bev Guile decided to offer a chance to leave early when the race was two hours away. The two left dressed for the dance, the report said.
