Ingham County Assistant Prosecutor's Badge, Work Computer Stolen in Brighton Area

A work computer and badge were among the items stolen from an Ingham County assistant prosecutor who lives in the Brighton area, but a spokesperson for the office says the data can't be compromised.

"Our software is encrypted," said Lisa McCormick, chief assistant prosecutor for Ingham County, adding such protections were put into place for instances such as this.

McCormick said there is a potential threat if someone attempts to use the badge, but the prosecutor's name is on it. She said the 44-year-old attorney complied with office policies in reporting the incident.

"He's a victim of a crime," she said, referring additional questions to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department, which is investigating the theft.

The incident occurred the night of Nov. 11 in Brighton Township's Country Side Estates after the man left his vehicle unlocked, according to the sherrif's department. A GPS and his wallet also was stolen and all the items were valued at $1,250.

In addition, a neighbor, a 26-year-old woman also had her wallet stolen from her unlocked car the same night.
