Howell couple attempts to return stolen items for money at Howell Walmart

A Howell couple is suspected of attempting to return stolen items at the Howell Walmart, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.

On April 17, a loss prevention manager for Walmart told police that a male suspect had placed two fishing reels in a plastic shopping bag while in the store. The suspect than gave the bag to a female suspect, according to the report, who went to the customer service desk, provided her drivers license, returned the fishing reels without a receipt and received a Walmart gift card for approximately $200.

Police say the couple then exited the store, but returned a short time later when the male suspect approached the customer service desk asking to exchange the Walmart gift card for a Visa gift card.

Police say that while the male suspect was at the desk, the female suspect waited around a corner and noticed the Walmart loss prevention manager looking at the fishing reels. Police say the female suspect motioned for the male suspect to exit the store, leaving the money gift card at the service desk.

Police say that because the female suspect had previously provided her drivers license information to Walmart, they were able to identify her and then the male suspect, however their whereabouts are unknown.

The case has been forwarded to the Livingston County Prosecutor's office for charges, according to the report.
