Carl G. Jennings, 75, drowned Tuesday during duck hunting trip.

Parshallville resident Carl G. Jennings drowned Tuesday after the boat he was in capsized while duck hunting near Lake Erie, according to multiple media reports.

The boat turned over during a driving rainstorm, throwing Jennings and two other men into a creek in Erie Township, not far from the Ohio border, reported monroenews.com.

Firefighters rescued the two men who attempted to swim to shore, the news organization reported, and desipite a search that included two boats and a dozen volunteer firefighters, they were able to find Jennings' body until more than two hours later.

The survivors who were suffering from hypothermia were taken to a Toldeo hospital, according to WTGV-TV. The cause of capsize is unclear, the station's website said.

Jennings' family members told mLive.com that the retired carpenter died doing what he loved.

“He was doing what he loved to do and that’s the best we can hope for,” said Dena Jennings-Dunn of Tyrone Township told the website. “Most of his life revolved around hunting and fishing and his family. He was very much an outdoorsman."

Jennings, who had a Fenton mailing address, lived in the Tyrone Township portion of the unicorporated community of Parshallville, according to Parshallville.com. The community stradles the border of Tyrone and Hartland townships.

Keehn Funeral Home in Brighton is handling arrangements and as of early Saturday there are no specifics beyond a death notice.

Mlive.com reported there will not be a funeral service and contributions can be made in Jennings’ name to , 11400 Linden Road, Fenton, MI 48430.
