On the Agenda: More than 1,100 Refunds on Tap

Township, schools and library boards to meet this week.

The Hartland Township Board is expected to consider a plan during its 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday that will credit more than 1,100 property owners at least $100.

The amount could be higher depending on how much sewer capacity originally bought for each property, although most will not exceed $287 per parcel, according to township documents.

The refund plan emerged after a months-long investigation of funds designated for Special Assessment District No. 2, which was created to pay for sewer improvements in part of the township.

Auditors and lawyers told officials about 25 percent of $2.1 million in question were surplus funds — with the rest belonging in other township funds or with the Livingston County Drain Commissioner. Of the remaining funds, officials decided to leave some as a reserve to ensure bond repayments while refunding about $258,400.

Tuesday's meeting will be held at , 2655 Clark Rd.
