On the Agenda: Hartland School Budget Hearing Monday

Proposals include pay cuts, higher class sizes.

A public hearing on Hartland School District's 2011-12 budget is on the agenda for the 6:30 p.m. Monday meeting in the board room at the .

State budget cuts and increased retirement costs are forcing cuts that include higher class sizes and assumes a 2.68 percent pay cut for teachers and support staff as well as similar cuts for administrators, according to budget documents. (See attached PDF).

Still uncertain is the fate of potential changes to the fine arts elementary program. Earlier this month, teachers cutting back music and art to half time classes in Hartland's four elementary schools, with two teachers in each department covering two buildings.

Other civic meetings

  • 7 p.m. Thursday Cromaine Librarian Ceci Marlow will hold to discuss the library's funding, including recent cuts and moves to keep the Crossroads branch open. The meeting will be at the , 1788 N. Old U.S. 23.
