By Janel Gryc

On Thursday, March 8,in Hartland presented their third annual school Showcase Evening. Lutheran Schools Week activities came to a close for students with an evening of fun and fellowship.

A progressive dinner was held throughout the school, and family, friends, and the public were invited to enjoy each course in a different classroom. Teachers greeted visitors to their classrooms, and a variety of student artwork, writing samples, and even an erupting volcano were on display throughout the school.

The Lutheran Malaria Initiative was on display to raise awareness and financial support for families suffering from malaria. The chapel offerings from our day school will benefit this initiative.

The sixth, seventh, and eighth graders presented their science fair projects as fellow students and visitors toured the building. The older students enjoyed teaching the younger students about their project topics, from sound waves to electrical circuits.

Directed by Kantor Matt Machemer and their teachers, students from preschool through eighth grade finished the evening with a musical presentation in the gymnasium.

Visitors enjoyed the preschool through second graders singing and signing Jesus Loves Me in addition to several other songs. Sign language and German are taught beginning in preschool, and are incorporated into the students’ daily routines. Children from first through eighth grade played the handbells and sang several songs. The older children presented one of their favorites, a beautiful Zulu hymn entitled Siyahamba meaning “Walking in the Light of God.”

Pastor Chris Thoma closed the evening in prayer.
