OLHSA's 26th annual Livingston Walk for Warmth event this Saturday

Local residents invited to join efforts to keep neighbors and friends warm this winter.

OLHSA, A Community Action Agency will host its 26th annual Walk for Warmth events in Livingston County, presented by Genisys Credit Union. Every year, over a thousand metro Detroiters join together for the community treasured walk-a-thons to help raise funds for OLHSA’s Emergency Utility Assistance Program, which helps keep the heat on in the homes of local residents.

A stand-out feature of this fundraiser is that every single dollar goes directly to keeping people warm. Funds are distributed in the counties from which they are raised, ensuring that each event has a significant and direct impact on its local community. Since 1990, OLHSA’s Walk for Warmth has raised more than $1.4 million.

The Livingston County Walk for Warmth will occur on Saturday, February 20 at Hartland Education Center in Howell. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and kick-off will occur at 9 a.m. The .25 mile indoor loop will feature areas for dancing to the tunes of DJ Kurt Lewis, Jazzercise, children’s games, refreshments and interaction with local businesses. Door prizes will be drawn and walkers will receive a t-shirt. The Walk will again be emceed by WHMI-FM’s Buzz Elliott.

“Walk for Warmth is truly a family focused event, and one that my own family looks forward to participating in,” said Brent Earl, owner of Earl Farm in Howell and chair of the Livingston walk. “Not only are we teaching our kids the importance of giving back, but we’re also helping out hundreds of families in the area along the way.”

Last year, the Livingston Walk for Warmth raised $93,520.
