Tennis Loses to Grand Blanc, Results in for Labor Day Weekend Race

RUNNING — Keri Garcia, 38, of Hartland, finished a 10K run in Milford on Saturday in 1:07:49 — one of 166 finishers in the race that features the Labor Day 30K.
Marybeth Greene, 34, of Hartland, finished the 10K walk in 1:30:23.
Nicholas Stanko of Ann Arbor won the 10K in 35:17 while Denisa Costescu of Commerce Township was the first female with a 40:43.

BOYS TENNIS — The Eagles lost to Grand Blanc 7-2 Thursday. The loss drops Hartland to 3-2 on the season. The varsity team next takes the court 4 p.m. Wednesday vs. Howell at Hartland High School.

BOYS TENNIS — Hartland split a quad Wednesday in Holt by defeating Grand Ledge 7-1 but losing to Holt 6-2.
With the split, the Eagles are now 3-1 on the year. Hartland next plays 4 p.m. Thursday at Grand Blanc.

GIRLS GOLF — Brighton defeated Hartland 167-180 Wednesday Oak Pointe Country Club as the Bulldogs were led by Hannah Pietila's sizzling 32, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.
Senior Brooke Kastamo was the low scorer for the Eagles with a 41. Other Hartland scores were: Sophomore Rachel Byron (45), Junior Annie Quinn (47) and sophomore Kelsey Erickson (48), the article said.
Tuesday
BOYS SOCCER — Worn down a little by the second match in as many nights, Hartland was shutout 2-0 Tuesday by Walled Lake Northern, head coach Andrew Kartsounes said.
"We played OK — it was back-to-back games that made it a little harder," Kartsounes said. "They were a little rested. … They are a good team. We were in the game definitely the whole way through."
With the away loss, the high school varsity team drops to 1-2-1 on the year. The junior varsity also lost 2-0 to Walled Lake Northern.
Hartland next plays at Grand Blanc with a 5:30 p.m. JV game and a 7 p.m. varsity game.
Monday
BOYS SOCCER — A strong defensive effort led by goal keeper Kevin Forster propelled Hartland to its first win of the year Monday with a 1-0 shutout over Holly.
It was the second straight shutout for Forster, who made several key saves after the Eagles took the lead 20 minutes into the second half on goal by Torin MacGregor that was assisted by Zach Henning.
"(Forster) made some great saves, especially down the stretch … to secure the win," head coach Andrew Kartsounes said.
Holly outshot Hartland 13-7, but Hartland's defense kept the ball out of the net while MacGregor sparked the offense by entering the game in the second half.
The goal was "a laser in the upper corner," Kartsounes said.
The high school varsity team is now 1-1-1 on the season.
The junior varisty also defeated Holly 8-0 to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Both squads next play 5:30 p.m. (JV) and 7 p.m. (varsity) at Walled Lake Northern.
GIRLS GOLF — Hartland finished fourth at Huron Valley Invitational at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland — the final high school summer tournament of the year, according to an email from head coach Mike Joseph.
Senior captain Brooke Kastamo led the Eagles with an 84, including a 39 on the back nine while sophomore Kelsey Erickson shot a career best 92, Joseph said.
The team shot 366, he said. Walled Lake Central won the event with a 343 and Halee Zyber from Swartz Creek was the medalist with an 80, Joseph said.
Other Hartland scores were: Claire Seekely (94), Rachel Byron (96), Annie Quinn (97) and Maggie Hogan (107).
The Eagles' next match is 2 p.m. Wednesday against Brighton at Oak Pointe Country Club in Genoa Township.

YOUTH CLUB SOCCER — The Hartland Havoc girls team won four straight matches to win the 8th Annual Fusion Invitational Tournament 2011 in Midland Aug. 27-28, according to an email from assistant coach Bryan Berry.
The U-9 team, which is part of the Hartland Community Soccer Association, won its games 5-0, 18-0, 5-3 and 6-2.

GIRLS SWIMMING — Hartland opened its season Thursday with a narrow 95-91 loss to Ann Arbor Skyline, according to results on Skyline's website.
Each high school team won six events. Winning events for the Eagles were: Avery Evenson (200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle), Kirsten Stroven (100-yard backstroke) and Madison Pietila (One-meter diving).
In addition, the team of Carolyn Robinson, Hannah Grosso, Erica Mehlberg and Evenson finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Grosso, Mehlberg and Evenson joined, Jocelyn Reinert to capture the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Hartland next competes 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeland.
