β’ PLAYERS TO WATCH: On the boys team, Josh and Jareb Duggan set three personal records during the first outdoor meet of their senior year against Brighton. In high jump, sophomore Zack Hauk has shined already with a tie for second at the last week's Saginaw Valley State University Outdoor Invitational.
The girls team features strong runners led by sophomore Avery Evenson, who won two events against Brighton and took first at last week's SVSU meet in the 1,600 meter run. Senior Anna Pasternak also won the 3,200 meter run against Brighton and grabbed second in that event during the invitational. Senior Helen Fountain also is gaining attention at pole vault, where she took a second at the SVSU meet.
β’ RECORDS: Boys are 1-0, girls are 0-1. Both compete 4 p.m. Thursday at Grand Blanc.
β’ TEAM GOALS: Keep improving
β’ BOYS COACH: Chuck Cullen
β’ BOYS COACHING STAFF QUOTE: "We still have a lot of things to improve upon," said assistant coach Matt Gutteridge. "If we do as good in the field events as we did against Brighton, we can nickel and dime people everywhere else.β
β’ GIRLS COACH: Beverly Guile
β’ GIRLS COACH QUOTE: βWe still have some work to do. We struggled with relays a lot in our first meet. We are going to have to work on our hand-offs and be a lot more consistent in the long jump.β
β’ PLAYER QUOTE: βI think that our team will get better throughout the year. We're hitting good times right now, but we'll improve," Evenson said.
