GIRLS SWIMMING — Hartland defeated Brighton 117-69 on Thursday, capturing 11 out of 12 events in the program's first ever win over the Bulldogs.

"The first time we swam against Brighton in 2005 it was almost the exact same score (in a loss) — It was kind of ironic," said head coach Maria Puranen. "They wanted it bad. You could tell. … There was a lot of close races. We just out touched them."

Among the standout performances was junior Avery Evenson whose winning time in 100-yard butterfly qualified her for the state finals in that event — the fifth such time for the Eagles this year. The only loss was in diving. (For complete results, see the PDF that accompanies this story).
