Tyrone Woman Receives Probation in Wasp Spraying Case

Sentencing follows a plea agreement that allows Susan A. Mann to avoid jail time.

A Tyrone Township woman who sprayed her next-door neighbor with wasp spray received probation at her sentencing Monday before Judge Suzanne Geddis in 53rd District Court.

Under a plea agreement with the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office, Susan A. Mann, 67, was sentenced to one year of probation, five days of community service and restitution totaling $3,012.62.

At her July 13 preliminary examination, Mann pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault. She was originally charged with unlawfully using a harmful device causing injury to another, a maximum 25-year felony.

No contest is not the same as a guilty plea but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.

According to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department, the neighbor was mowing his yard on April 30 when approached by Mann, who told him he was on her property and demanded he get off. The two have had an ongoing feud.

He replied he wasn't on her property and, Mann told police, swore at her. Mann then got a can of wasp repellent and sprayed the neighbor all over his body and face.

The neighbor told police he was having trouble opening his eyes and sought medical treatment at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc Township.

Mann, who said she has lived in the house for 43 years, has three children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mann told the court she planned to move to North Carolina to live with her daughter.
