1. Ironwood Board ponders AP class use (yourdailyglobe.com) — Ironwood school leaders are debating how Advanced Placement classes best serve local students after reviewing last year's AP exam results at Luther L. Wright K-12 School. Some board members question dedicating resources to small groups of high achievers, while administrators argue AP courses are succeeding and should stay in-house, even as they explore closer collaboration with Gogebic Community College.
2. Gogebic Community College to expand UP advanced manufacturing training (uppermichiganssource.com) — Gogebic Community College in Ironwood has secured nearly $476,500 to expand advanced manufacturing training across the western U.P., including continued use of its Skilled Trades Center in town. The grant will fund new equipment, technology, and training spaces through 2029, aiming to make technical education more accessible for local workers and better aligned with area employers' needs.
3. 100 years later: Ironwood recalls 1926 Pabst Mine Cave-in (yourdailyglobe.com) — Ironwood residents recently gathered at the Memorial Building to mark 100 years since the deadly 1926 Pabst Mine cave-in and dramatic rescue of 43 trapped miners. The Friends of Miners Memorial Heritage Park used songs, stories, and historic film to honor three men killed and highlight how the once-industrial site has become a wooded trail network and place of reflection.
4. C.S. Mott celebrates 'Little Victors' with parade through pediatric cancer ward (mlive.com) — An Ironwood family whose 3-year-old daughter is battling Stage 4 neuroblastoma was among those celebrated during a joyful pediatric cancer parade at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. Volunteers, mascots, and sponsors brightened the seventh-floor cancer ward, while a Culver's fundraiser and Michigan Medicine's Block Out Cancer campaign raised money for pediatric cancer research and support programs.
