Today's riddle: What did the fish say when she hit a wall? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Second arrest made in 2023 Kalamazoo murder and armed robbery case, 21-year-old facing charges (fox17online.com) — Kalamazoo police have arrested 21-year-old Dariyon Mills-Wright in connection with the 2023 shooting death of Alexander Shucster, following an eight-count warrant issued by the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor. One co-defendant was already sentenced earlier this year, and investigators are still asking Kalamazoo residents to share any information through KDPS detectives or the Kalamazoo Silent Observer tip line.
2. The case for more flights? Kalamazoo airport reports strong summer (mlive.com) — Kalamazoo's airport just wrapped up a strong summer, with August boardings jumping more than 11% and fuller planes strengthening the push for more flights. Delta has already added a Detroit trip, and United is slated to restart Kalamazoo–Chicago service in late October, making it a good time to consider flying from AZO instead of driving to larger airports.
3. Gryphon Place prepares for 13th annual suicide prevention walk (wwmt.com) — Next Saturday, Gryphon Place will bring hundreds to Bronson Park and downtown Kalamazoo for its 13th annual Suicide Prevention Walk, featuring a resource fair, panel discussion, and 5K route with a shorter option. Registration is still open for $30, and organizers emphasize connecting residents with mental health support, including the 988 crisis line.
4. A single gas station in cities throughout Kalamazoo County had the cheapest premium gas in week ending Sept. 5 (kalamazootimes.com) — If you're filling up with premium in Kalamazoo County, one station offered the week's lowest reported price at $4.54 per gallon, well below the county's $5.29 average. The story also explains how global oil markets, refinery outages, and seasonal demand are pushing Michigan fuel costs higher this year.
