1. Lansing's new faith-based school opens following spring controversy (fox47news.com) — Families in Lansing's Old Everett neighborhood now have a new option for faith-based education as Hope Christian School opens at Pennway Church of God, enrolling about 120 students. The school grew quickly after contract disputes at Lansing Christian School, and classes will start outdoors at Woldumar Nature Center on September 8 before moving into permanent classrooms on September 14.

2. Lansing man convicted of murder in abduction, killing of Alicia Gallegos (wlns.com) — A Lansing man has been convicted of first-degree murder and unlawful imprisonment in the 2023 abduction and killing of 29-year-old Lansing resident Alicia Gallegos, closing a years-long case closely watched by local families. Jurors deliberated less than an hour before returning the verdict, and sentencing is set for October 14 in Ingham County Circuit Court.

3. Michigan's new $2 billion battery plant will supply the grid and Toyota's EV pipeline (thecooldown.com) — LG Energy Solution's new $2 billion battery campus in Lansing is now producing cells for both large-scale energy storage and Toyota electric vehicles, bringing about 900 jobs with plans to nearly double that. The facility strengthens Lansing's role in clean energy manufacturing while supporting grid reliability and future EV production across the region and beyond.

4. Two dead on Lansing River Trail in two weeks; family of latest victim calls for action (wilx.com) — Two deadly attacks on the Lansing River Trail in just two weeks have a Lansing family demanding more cameras and safety measures from the city. After 57-year-old Louis Woodruff died from severe injuries, trail advocates are urging residents not to walk alone at off-peak hours, to share their routes, and to stay highly aware while using the trail.

5. Michigan gas prices near record highs ahead of Labor Day weekend, Lansing drivers paying above $4 a gallon (wkar.org) — Lansing drivers are paying about $4.12 per gallon for gas heading into Labor Day weekend, slightly above the Michigan average of $4.11 and well above last year's prices. An analyst warns there's little short-term relief expected, though travelers might find cheaper fuel in western Michigan or across the Indiana border, where prices can be 60–80 cents lower.
