• City of Lansing, Notice of Public Hearing, Sept. 14, 2026, to amend Chapter 230 of the Lansing Codified Ordinances (lansingcitypulse.com) — Lansing City Council will hold a Sept. 14 public hearing on a proposed ordinance to earmark part of the city's Basic Human Services budget for safe, secure housing assistance for residents. If you rely on or care about local housing support, you're encouraged to attend, send a representative, or submit written comments to City Hall before the meeting.
• Retired assistant police chief weighs in on ELPD's Welcome Weekend tactics (wlns.com) — East Lansing police will again have a heavy presence downtown this weekend as Michigan State's football season gets underway, following 35 arrests and 134 citations during Welcome Weekend. A retired Detroit assistant chief and local police monitors are questioning some crowd-control tactics, while ELPD reviews video and weighs how visible officers will remain through the season.
• Thousands of Weekly Searches Tap Into ELPD's Flock Data. Few Come From Local Police. (eastlansinginfo.news) — A single Flock license plate reader in East Lansing is feeding tens of thousands of weekly searches by police agencies across Michigan, while East Lansing officers use it relatively little themselves. Despite earlier assurances that sharing would be limited to nearby departments like Lansing, the data now reach far-flung agencies, raising fresh privacy and oversight concerns just as Lansing's City Council has urged ending its own Flock contract.
