1. Michigan lawmakers introduce bills to regulate license plate reader cameras (fox47news.com) — State lawmakers are weighing new limits on Flock license plate reader cameras, while Lansing has already voted to end its contract with the company. Local activists argue the bills don't go far enough to curb mass surveillance, and Livingston County has pulled its cameras after vandalism. The legislation now heads to the House Judiciary Committee for review.
2. 3rd Annual Dance by the River Pow Wow brings tradition, community back to Lansing's riverfront (fox47news.com) — Lansing residents can still catch the 3rd Annual Dance by the River Pow Wow at Adado Riverfront Park, which continues today at noon along the Grand River. Hosted by the Anishinaabe Friendship Center, the free, public gathering features traditional dancing, drumming, Native vendors, and food while helping rebuild Indigenous cultural programming and visibility in the capital city.
3. DTMB: Iron Mountain Spruce Becomes State of Michigan's 40th Christmas Tree (michiganbusinessnetwork.com) — A 60-foot spruce from Iron Mountain will arrive in downtown Lansing on Nov. 7 to become Michigan's official 2026 state Christmas tree on the Capitol lawn. Local crews, including Lansing's HI-Ball Company and city forestry team, will help set and decorate the tree ahead of the Nov. 20 Silver Bells in the City lighting ceremony.
4. Time to fall back in Lansing? When to turn clocks back (lansingstatejournal.com) — Lansing-area residents don't need to turn their clocks back until 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, when Daylight Saving Time ends across Michigan. The piece explains how the fall equinox, meteorological seasons, and the spring-forward change in March 2027 all affect your clocks and daylight, plus which devices you'll still need to reset by hand.
5. Lansing-Jackson TV market has booked $39 million in political ads … and counting (wkar.org) — Viewers in the Lansing-Jackson TV market are seeing an unprecedented flood of political ads, with about $39 million already booked across four local stations this year. Much of the spending centers on Michigan's U.S. Senate and 7th Congressional District races, as well as statewide contests, reflecting how crucial mid-Michigan voters are in the 2026 midterms.
