• Is There A Serial Killer Loose In Lansing? Chief Addresses Community Concerns (patch.com) — Lansing residents are being reassured as Police Chief Robert Backus addresses fears about a possible serial killer after five unhoused men were attacked and later died near the River Trail. While one case has an arrest and involves a stabbing, investigators are still probing links among the other deaths and have boosted patrols, cameras, and outreach to unhoused people along the trail. Police are urging anyone with information to use a dedicated tip line or Crime Stoppers.
• Lansing gas prices down 26 cents on average in past week (wlns.com) — Lansing drivers are seeing some relief at the pump, with average gas prices dropping 26 cents per gallon over the past week, now around $4.40. Prices are still significantly higher than last month and last year, but local stations range from $4.17 to $4.84, giving residents a reason to shop around. Statewide and national averages have also dipped slightly.
• Michigan State University welcomes over 50,000 students for fall semester (fox47news.com) — Just down the road in East Lansing State University has welcomed more than 50,000 students this fall, including over 37,000 Michigan residents from all 83 counties. The incoming class is more diverse than ever, with nearly 30% domestic students of color, reinforcing MSU's role as a major educational and economic anchor for the Lansing region.
