The district, which includes southern Macomb County and part of Rochester Hills, is currently represented by John James, who chose not to seek re-election, opting to run for governor instead. James won the Republican primary and will face off against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson in November.
James did not endorse anyone in the race, but Bouchard earned the backing of President Donald Trump.
Bouchard listed his top priorities as adding manufacturing jobs in the district and backing the "Parents' Bill of Rights," which he says will give moms and dads a say in what their kids are being taught in schools.
He has also cited strengthening U.S. national security. He is a veteran.
On the Democratic side, all three candidates cited affordability as a top concern, specifically attacking President Trump's tariffs, which they believe harm the district's manufacturing sector.
The candidates, however, did not outright oppose tariffs.
They also pointed to rising costs in health care, which they all have pledged to expand and make more affordable.
