DSO to Perform Free Classical Concert at Macomb Center

Music fans can hear the Detroit Symphony Orchestra perform the classics June 8 in a free concert at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts.

The DSO will perform a special program designed to appeal to classical enthusiasts as well as first-time symphony goers at 7:30 p.m. on June 8.

DSO Music Director Leonard Slatkin will conduct the orchestra in the works of Bach, Beethoven, Schubert and Tchaikovsky. In addition, the DSO will present Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, a composition that showcases the tone colors and capacities of the various sections of the orchestra. 

Macomb Community College professor Philip Barrons will join the orchestra on stage to narrate. 

“This is an incredible opportunity for Macomb County residents to fully experience the DSO right here in our community,” said Jim Jacobs, president, Macomb Community College, in a release. “Being able to partner with and present an internationally acclaimed orchestra at the Macomb Center demonstrates how Macomb College continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing our community’s cultural vibrancy.”  

Tickets to the concert are free, but seating is reserved, and each order is limited to four tickets. 

Tickets may be picked up at the Macomb Center box office Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and Friday, noon-6 p.m. Tickets may also be ordered by phone at 586-286-2222.
