Embark on a Museum Adventure for Your Staycation

With many local schools enjoying mid-winter break this week, families on staycation can take advantage of the Clinton-Macomb Public Library's Museum Adventure Pass program.

The Museum Adventure Pass program, sponsored by Macy's and provided through the CMPL, allows library cardholders to check out two or four free or reduced admissions (depending on location) to dozens of local museums in Metro Detroit.

"I think it’s a great option because it helps people explore their own community," said Jamie Morris, CMPL community relations specialist. "There's lots of great places in the area and there are a lot of really great cultural institutions in the program and it just shows that you don’t have to leave the state to have a really great cultural experience with your kids."

From the Cranbrook Institute of Science to the Detroit Children's Museum and Arts and Scraps, admission to more than 30 arts and cultural organizations is only a library visit away.

"What people can do is they can visit the library and check out passes to local cultural museums in the area," Morris said. "Some museums give you two free admissions, some give you four. It’s just a really great way to experience culture at no cost in the area."

Morris recommends interested patrons visit the Museum Adventure Pass link on the library's website before coming in to check out a pass. Because some museums are already free, Morris said the Museum Adventure Pass will often offer another perk, such as a free gift.

Additional restrictions for each pass are also listed on the Museum Adventure Pass website. 

Patrons can only have one pass on their library card at any given time and the pass, which is good for one week, will remain on the library card for seven days.
