Last Macomb Sailboat Completes Race to Mackinac Island

The Absolute completed the course at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday. The Boomerang and Ariel finished their courses Monday.

The last of the three Macomb sailboats to compete in the Bell's Beer Bayview Mackinac Race arrived at Mackinac Island at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday.

The Absolute, owned by Art Mason and Don Hinckfoot, competed in Division I on the Cove Island course and sailed into Mackinac approximately 63 hours after leaving Port Huron on Saturday.

The Boomerang, owned by Matthew Schriner, was the first of the three Macomb boats to reach Mackinac Island.

Schriner's sailboat, competing in Division III and manned by a crew of seven, completed the shore course on Monday at approximately 9:19 a.m. The Boomerang completed the course in just under 42 hours.

Current race standings, as of 3:46 p.m. today, show the Boomerang in 56th for its division.

The Ariel was the second Macomb boat to complete the race, clocking in at approximately 2:18 p.m. Monday. Owned by Mark W. Aitken and manned by a crew of seven, the Ariel completed the shore course in Division IV in just over 45 hours.

This finish puts the Ariel in 22nd in its division.

Although the Absolute took first place in its class in 2003, current standings show the boat at 46th in its division. A crew of 10 manned this boat.
