Macomb Corners Park to Host DIA Artwork This Fall

Fall visitors to the newly completed will have more than just the surrounding foliage to admire, as the park's walking trail will also serve as the backdrop to seven life-size reproductions of art from the Detroit Institute of Arts.

As part of its 125th anniversary celebration, the DIA, in partnership with SM/ART Editions, has selected cities throughout Macomb, Oakland, Wayne and Washtenaw counties to participate in its Inside|Out program, which takes 40 framed, life-size digital reproductions of art from its collection to the streets and parks of local communities.

Macomb Township will have seven of these works installed in its Macomb Corners Park this September, and the art will remain on display through Nov. 25. The art, along with the completion of the park, will be celebrated with Party in the Park Sept. 24 from noon-2 p.m.

“We think it will be a great addition and we’re really looking forward to it,” said Sal DiCaro, parks and recreation director, in a previous interview with . “We’ll put them on display in the fall, so the colors are changing to get a different perspective on different pieces of art.”

Each work is displayed in an ornate frame, accompanied by an information plaque. The reproductions can be installed on walls or on freestanding posts, whichever display complements the work best.

In addition to Macomb Township, DIA reproductions will be installed in Birmingham, Franklin, Armada, Detroit’s Eastern Market, Riverfront and Dequindre Cut, Holly, Milford, Warren, Lake Orion, Oxford and Belleville.

“Once again, we are delighted with the public’s response,” said Graham W. J. Beal, DIA director, in a release. “There is a genuine sense of community ownership around the installations and many residents have come to the DIA to see ‘their’ actual works of art. We are happy to be able to continue the momentum with the new installations this fall.”

As an added bonus, the DIA will offer residents of participating communities free museum admission (excludes special ticketed exhibitions and programs) to a Family Sunday.
