Macomb Teen to Perform in DSO Program Concert
Mickenna Keller of Macomb Township will perform this weekend in the Civic Experience concert as part of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Civic Youth Ensembles training program.
A Macomb Township teen will join hundreds of Detroit area children this weekend in the Civic Experience concert at the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit.
Mickenna Keller, 13, of Macomb Township, will play the oboe in the fall Civic Experience, an annual civic youth ensemble performance showcasing the work of students enrolled in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Civic Youth Ensembles training program, according to an article in The Detroit News.
"This time last year, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life," said Keller in the Detroit News article. "Within the first three rehearsals, it changed my life completely. It is so inspiring. Now I know I'll go into music for my career."
The News article said Keller entered the training program in September along with more than a thousand Detroit area children, from third-graders to high school seniors, in one of the 18 classical and jazz ensembles. The students receive training from DSO musicians and guest conductors.
