[WATCH] Woman Crashes Car Into Macomb County Jail, Says Brakes Failed: Sheriff

A woman is in trouble after she crashed her car into the Macomb County Jail in Mount Clemens on Friday, officials said.

MOUNT CLEMENS, MI — A woman is in trouble after she crashed her car into the Macomb County Jail in Mount Clemens on Friday, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

The 43-year-old Mount Clemens woman was charged with reckless driving and driving without insurance. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was released with minor injuries, officials said.

Officials said the woman was driving a 2017 Chevy Cruze north of Elizabeth Road, just north of Groesbeck Highway where she went up a curb, hit a tension wire and struck a tree.

The car then continued through the jail’s barbed wire chain linked fence and hit the building, where it finally came to a rest, officials said.

The woman told officers after the crash that her brakes went out on the car, officials said.

Police do not believe alcohol played a factor in the crash.
