📰 News we're reading

1. 100 Women Who Care tops $100K in Mecosta County donations (theheraldreview.com) — A Mecosta County women's giving group has now donated more than $100,000 to nonprofits across Mecosta and Osceola counties, including a recent $4,100 gift to the Mecosta-Osceola Victim Services Unit. Local women commit $100 each quarter, meet briefly to choose a nonprofit, and pool their contributions so small individual gifts add up to major support for community organizations.

2. MOTA and B1039 to host WISE Fill-A-Bus donation drive in Big Rapids (bigrapidsnews.com) — Mecosta Osceola Transit Authority and Big Rapids radio station B103.9 are hosting a WISE Fill-A-Bus donation drive Oct. 3 at the downtown Big Rapids Farmer's Market, collecting pantry and personal-care items for local survivors. Organizers stress that even small donations help, and businesses can sponsor future drives while residents can also give online or by wishlist if they can't attend.

3. Sept. 21-27: Blotters for Mecosta, Newaygo counties (michigansthumb.com) — Deputies in Mecosta and Newaygo counties handled several recent incidents, including drug-related traffic stops in Green Charter and Big Rapids townships that led to multiple arrests and bookings at the Mecosta County Jail. They also responded to a crash in Big Rapids Township that sent an 18-year-old driver to the hospital with minor injuries and helped locate a missing person from Hesperia.

4. MRWA hosts ribbon cutting marking Buckhorn Creek restoration in Paris (bigrapidsnews.com) — In nearby Paris, a $2.2 million project has restored Buckhorn Creek and built a new bridge reconnecting the White Pine Trail, with the Mecosta County Parks Commission among key partners. Local and state leaders say removing the old dam improves fish passage, strengthens the Muskegon River watershed, and creates a more scenic, accessible spot for biking, fishing, and reflection for Mecosta-area residents.
