1. Midland seeks public feedback on short-term rentals (ourmidland.com) — Midland residents are being asked to weigh in on how short-term rentals like Airbnb and VRBO should be handled in their neighborhoods via a new city survey open through Oct. 23. The City currently has no cap on rental numbers and wants feedback on residents’ experiences and concerns before considering any future rule changes.

MDARD Announces Grant Recipients Focused on Regen Ag (morningagclips.com) — A Midland County farm, JNelson Farms, is receiving $50,500 from the state’s Farm to Family Regenerative Value Chains Grant Program to add solar power, battery storage, and backup generation that will protect crops during outages. The broader initiative is funding similar regenerative agriculture upgrades statewide, aiming to strengthen local food systems and support beginning and small farmers.

3. Nearly 400 young sturgeon released into Saginaw River system (spectrumlocalnews.com) — Nearly 100 young lake sturgeon were released into the Tittabawassee River in Midland as part of a broader effort to restore the threatened species in the Saginaw River system. Organized by Chippewa Nature Center and federal partners, the project aims to rebuild populations so these migratory fish can eventually return to local rivers to spawn over coming decades.

4. FACES OF MIDLAND: Amy and Kate's story of love, identity and community (ourmidland.com) — A new Faces of Midland photo and storytelling exhibit at Live Oak Coffee House highlights the lives of local residents Amy Beasley and Kate Dornbos and their journey toward authenticity and belonging. Running through October with a reception on Oct. 6, the project invites Midland neighbors to explore how curiosity, inclusion, and everyday support can strengthen community connections.

5. Chemics fall to TC Central (ourmidland.com) — Midland High’s Chemics fell 21-14 to Traverse City Central after spotting the Trojans an early two-touchdown lead, despite late scoring from quarterback Taber Benner and standout two-way play by Rostin Delgado. With the loss dropping them to 3-3 overall, Midland now turns its focus to hosting Lapeer next Friday in another key Saginaw Valley League matchup.
