Anchor Bay Football Reports for Duty

The Anchor Bay football teams reported to first day of practice this afternoon.

The football teams kicked off their 2011 season with their first day of practice Monday afternoon.

The teams concentrated on speed and agility drills and conditioning with helmets-only, which will continue through Wednesday. Full-pad practices start Thursday and a red/white team scrimmage is set for Saturday. 

"This is always an energetic and optimistic time for us," Anchor Bay  coach Phil Latona said. "The kids are excited to get started. One thing that we work on every day is to just get better. That's our focus. We want to be as fast and as perfect as possible."

The teams' captains this year are seniors Nick Black, Rich Woonton and Brandon Stabley. 

"I always rely on my seniors," said Latona. "The seniors are the core of our team and we'll rally around them.

The on Thursday, Aug. 25. The home opener is Thursday, Sept. 1 against L'Anse Creuse.
