How food can weaken your abs

Food Sensitivities

I see it all the time with new clients of mine. Β They come in, sit down, and tell me their goals. Β Most of the time this includes getting rid of fat around the mid section and toning the core. Β However, after a short fitness assessment I discover that many people simply cannot activate or turn on their core.

Often times this is due to a strange neurological condition known as visceral somatic inhibition, which basically means that the core muscles become shut down due to inflamed and angry internal organs, specifically the intestines. Β

Your intestines are on the same neurological loop as your deep core muscles (like the tranversus abdominis). Β What this translates into is that when they are unhappy with the food that is being fed to them, they shut down the core muscles around them turning them weak and useless.

6 Foods That Many People Are Sensitive To
  1. Gluten
  2. Dairy
  3. Soy
  4. Corn
  5. Meat
  6. Sugar
If people continue to eat the food they are sensitive to, it won't matter how much they train, they simply won't be able to activate the proper muscles. Β In order to make real progress they need to identify what they are eating that they are sensitive too and eliminate it!

The best way to do this is to go on aΒ food rotation. Β Basically, pick one group of foods that you are eating that you suspect you may be sensitive to (let's pick gluten) and then refrain from eating it for 3-4 weeks. Β After this time, reintroduce the food back into your diet and see how it makes you feel.

If you feel terrible, get gas, bad headaches, and abdominal bloat from eating it, then chances are that you are sensitive to it. Β Once you identify foods in this way, always be sure to stay away from them as much as possible. Β Doing so will dramatically help decrease your bloat and will also allow all your hard work in the gym to pay off!
